So, I've heard a lot about this movie, how its opened people's eyes to the fact that theres a world outside their lives, that it was inspiring, amazing, and even that it was too American.

I enjoyed the movie thoroughly. It let me know that as near as in 1992, vagabonding was actually possible, what with cops and highway patrol, and all sorts of other things The Man invented to keep us tied to one spot. Too bad I was born too late for that window.

But I've already had the revelation that wanderlust ain't gonna lay down and die in my lifetime. No ligtning bolts of truth and self-discovery struck me last night.

But what I wonder about is the term, 'too American.' Well, not the words she used, but the direct translation. Was it really?

Well, the obvious states that it was set in America. Um, duh. Maybe the problem was that it showed so much of America. Our country's a big place! Not many are comfortable with that, hence the wool-over-the-eyes thing for the rest of the world.

When I study the French culture and way of life, all I can think of is clastrophobia. They live so tightly packed, even when they're alone. In Paris, forget it. It may act like New Orleans, but you can't throw a rock without hitting someone. In the country, theres hills and windmills, and you really can't get a grasp of the open sky. And the houses... They're built like lofts, and packed so tightly, people can bare move. Tiny sitting rooms, narrow hallways, all packed with boxes, tables, coat racks, other people... I try not to go a-visiting in France because while I've never had one in my life, to have a panic attack in a French home might make me have to stay in it longer.

I've done my 'need to get out and see the world' rant here many times, I'm sure, and I don't feel like rehashing it.

I actually don't feel that long-winded and philosophical right now (could have been all those marshmallow Peeps), so I'm just gonna saw, see it with caution, because you could end up like one of us.

one of us, one of us.
