HAITUS ENDS TOMORROW.
JE-SUS, I thought this summer was gonna KILL me!
Anyway, theres a lot of retrospective going down in terms of SPN fandom, and who am I to let the bandwagon down?
I read SPN fic long before I ever saw the show. Back in 2003, my freshman year, a friend of mine recommended SPN to me, describing the episode Scarecrow to me, saying that he thought I would like it. I was all, 'Eh, I don't watch TV. Thanks, though'
YEARS later, in France, I discovered that my major flists were very SPN. Curious, I read some fic, and enjoyed them, even if I wasn't quite sure who these Sam and Dean people were. Not even really aware that they were brothers. Ah, youth.
In the process of watching episodes of Highlander and Medium online, I decided to give Supernatural a shot. The fact that Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are completely drool worthy didn't really phase me. I watched the first episode, and was enamoured with it because of something my mother and I call 'I-Knew-It! fiction'.
The story describes something that you always suspected, somewhere in the back of your head, to exist. Harry Potter is like that. The Jasper Fforde books are totally like that. And Supernatural is another. The world is so well designed that they fit right into the cracks of reality, and so well executed that, if you have a fantastical mind like mine, you harbor absolutely no doubt that somewhere out there are Hunters, tracking down the things that go bump in the night so you don't have to.
I dunno about you, but I love stuff like that.
And then the story line hooked me, along with the quirky dialouge, the believable characters, the realistic(ish) conflicts, and... okay, I'm an urban legend buff. I love the things. This show was like crack for me.
And then there was the slash fanfiction...
I never really stood a chance. ::grin::
