Its the kind of day/weather outside that makes you think of being a kid. Your definition of kid is up to you, but to me, that age is about 12 to 17. Its cool out, smelling like rain and wet concrete and dirt. That blend of ozone and dust makes me think of old books, damp jeans, that acid stink when you crush a centipede, and music.
I first heard Smile Empty Soul in high school, when I got my morning ride from a friend. They're the quintessential angsty teen band, with song titles such as Bottom of a Bottle, Therapy, and Self-Inflicted. The lyrics are self-destructive, angry, and just what a adolescent caught in the throes of hormones and growing the hell up wants to hear.
God, that was a bad time. I think its that way for everybody. You're so self-conscious and angry, being forced to make big, life-altering choices and above all, think about the future. No wonder so many of us crash and burn. We were scared to fucking death!
We're supposed to be all grown up when in college, but as far as I can tell, we're all still as scared as ever. Still fighting with our parents, making bad choices out of desperation.
Guys, being a grown up may suck, but being a kid aint that great, either.
